Flower Shop QAL Week 5 - Blocks 7 + 8
You may have noticed that I didn’t quite get a good blog post out about week 4 here on the website - but here is a link to the newsletter for those who may have missed it.
This week our goal is to finish blocks seven and eight. Leaving our last week for one final block, playing catch up and hopefully getting our blocks pieced together for a finished quilt top. There are actually a couple of people that have not only finished their blocks but has quilted or is in the process of quilting….. holy moly guys - you are zooming by!
Again, there is no rush and I want you to go at your own pace. The Quilt Along is going on a schedule of two blocks a week finishing with a total of nine blocks for the throw size quilt. Some of you may finish one block and end up with an awesome throw pillow or four and make a baby quilt!
I have also really enjoyed seeing everyone’s super scrappy blocks. Something I never really even thought of when making the pattern but has honestly turned out to be some of my favorites! Don’t you want to dive right into your stash and make a scrappy version now? This will definitely be on my list for a couple of little girls I know.
Many of you have also been asking about sourcing a template set that works with the pattern. I finally tested a set for you guys and found a winner! Sharing my thoughts below - Template set by Jen Carlton Bailly @Bettycrockerass. You can find more about Jen’s template sets - her amazing curved patterns here. Also, my sponsor this week - Sewtopia offers these sets in her shop as well!
Week 5 Sponsor and Prize
We also have a fantastic sponsor for week 5 - Sewtopia!
A little bit about Sewtopia below:
Sewtopia was inspired by the online sewing community. Sewtopia went from a big idea to a traveling creative retreat in 2014. One of the main purposes of Sewtopia is to serve as a real world meeting place for friends to come sew and indulge for a relaxing weekend.
We provide retreats throughout the year where attendees can leave all the stresses of daily life behind to indulge themselves, focus on sewing projects, and get together with friends, old and new. The spring and summer event focuses on education and the fall event will be a retreat-style, an open sewing event.
We envision Sewtopia to be a support system for the online sewing community. We want to cultivate knowledge and help people make real-life connections with other people in the sewing hobby.
Amy has been the best - offering a fantastic Flower Shop Kit in her shop using the original pattern colors and also some great deals for all of you on tools at the beginning of the QAL. This week she has a fun project bag and your choice of a “Monday bundle” (sharing a picture of this last Monday’s selection). She also has an awesome deal on patterns this week: Buy 1 pattern get 2nd half off, no code needed!
Rules for this weeks prize is sharing a progress image on Instagram using the hashtag #flowershopqal and follow @modernhandcraft and @sewtopia for a chance to win! Due to shipping restraints this prize is open to US residents only.
Thanks for stopping by today friends, now I am off to make my last block and piece my quilt together so I will have it ready for next week!
