Quilt Crush - Nydia Kehnle
Hi friends, Today I am starting a new blog series called Quilt Crush - where, you may have guessed is a bit about some of my favorite quilters and the amazing work that they do. For my first Quilt Crush I want to introduce a gal who most of you already know or you may know some of her patterns.
Nydia Kehnle has become one of my best quilty friends, or one of my best real friends since we chat on a daily basis. I am drawn to people who share a similar esthetic, bold use of color, and who just plain inspire me. Nydia is known for her fantastic quilt and embroidery patterns that she collaborates with Alison Glass on. You also may remember her from Quiltcon where he received first place in the Improv category with her amazing quilt titled The Rabbit Hole.
These are just some of her fun images from Instagram - you can follow her at @nydiak
Some of you may have been following along with all of the excitement at Quilt Market a couple of weeks ago when Alison Glass released the new quilt series titled - Skill Builder Bundle. Nydia has two new patterns in this series - Swatch and Ventana. She is offering the Skill Builder Bundle as well as her individual patterns Swatch and Ventana at a special price in her shop right now.
I saw all of these in person and they are just stunning!
Nydia also has a new State Embroidery series that I am just loving right now, yes she embroiders as well as quilts - such a crafty lady! So far she has a total of 23 states and is launching new ones monthly. These are 6.5" state silhouette embroideries printed on a 9" x 10" piece of Kona Cotton. This is a huge deal if you do not have a steady hand for tracing as the pattern is ready to go on the fabric for you to start stitching. It's a light gray that is not visible underneath your stitches but dark enough for you to see while working.

I am working on Texas right now, my home state, but have Arizona and Illinois waiting in the wings. I decided when these first came out that it would be so fun to make one for each state that my husband and I have lived in together. I also think this would make the perfect road trip project for the state you are visiting, and can also be fun for older kids as a backseat activity. Handmade keepsakes are always the best!
I am just keeping with one solid color for each state. Mostly because I was having the darndest time narrowing colors down, ha!
Here are all of Nydia's current quilt patterns, see some familiar ones?
Nydia was kind enough to give Modern Handcraft readers free shipping with any order in her shop until 12 am on 05/29/2015! Just use code MODERNHANDCRAFT at checkout for your free shipping rate.
Make sure to share on Instagram your sewing progress - quilt and embroidery by tagging her in your image. She loves to see all of the progress and frequently reposts fans work!
Thanks for stopping by today friends and I hope you now have a Quilt Crush on Nydia like I do!
