Spring Fling Blog Hop - Hawaiian Flower Purse
Hi friends, today I am participating in the Sizzix Spring Fling Blog Hop where we are featuring projects created from different floral dies!
I have had my eye on the Bigz Pro Die - Flower, Hawaiian motif and wanted to create something fun for my upcoming vacation. This particular floral pattern ( used in Hawaiian Quilts ) is a distinctive style of the Hawaiian Islands that uses large symmetric applique patterns. They are usually made in bold colors on a white background, so keeping in the traditional style I created a fun fold over purse.
Hawaiian Quilt appliqué usually follows around the contours of the applique design, instead of this stitching method I chose to do matchstick quilting to secure my appliqué piece. In the future I plan on making a true Hawaiian quilt using the proper stitching method, and hope to use some similar colors as well.
I made the fold over purse large enough to use during the day in my beach bag to hold my magazines and sunscreen.
For nighttime it folds up to create a perfect purse to hold a few items and still showcases the hawaiian floral design beautifully.
I added a bit of leather to my zipper for a pull.
The fabrics I used for this project:
- Outside front: Robert Kaufman / Widescreen in White - Carolyn Friedlander
- Hawaiian flower: Dear Stella / Tigerlily
- Outside back: Andover Fabrics / Sunprint 2015 in Pumpkin - Alison Glass
- Lining: Moda Fabrics / Figures, Positive in Salmon - Zen Chic
Thanks for stopping by today friends and I hope you enjoy the rest of the Sizzix Spring Fling Blog Hop!
