Modern Rainbow Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello friends! I am super excited to share with you today a little bit about a new book that is available from Stash books - Modern Rainbow by Rebecca Bryan of Bryanhouse Quilts. unnamed I had the pleasure of meeting Becca in person a couple of times, the first while standing in line at a schoolhouse session at Quilt Market this last year and she is just the sweetest person! I was so pumped when she asked if I wanted to take part in the blog hop and as soon as I heard the name of the book - Modern Rainbow...two of my favorite words - yes sign me up! This book is pure eye candy, not because of the colors and beautiful photos - the quilts are just so fantastic, and I mean every single one! I saw a couple of the quilts from the book in person at Quiltcon and just fell in love with the rainbow improv style of Rainbow Remix and knew that is a project I had to try out.

I am completely new to the idea of improv, it seemed difficult to me to let go of cutting perfect lines and just sewing without really thinking but it was so refreshing! It was a nice break to sit and sew on this in between other projects because it was totally mindless sewing - and we all need that every now and then.

Taking advice from her book about pairing the colors with a neutral fabric I decided to use a gray neutral with some bright solids. I paired some Robert Kaufman Kona solids with Andover Black Chambray - the back was a fun paint by number fabric from the Lush Uptown collection by Erin Michaels for Moda.

I didn't make it as wonky as the original project and made it a bit smaller due to running out of time, but I love how the size makes for a great wall hanging or table runner!

I had some tulips I picked up at the grocery store that just happened to be a perfect match for the dark red and orange tones.
