Sizzix Half Square Triangles
Hi friends! Did you guys notice the new image over on the right side bar? I am officially a Sizzix team member! I tried out a machine this last month and totally fell in love - you will see that project here soon...(hint - super easy way to make hexies). Today I wanted to share a little work in progress and just how easy it is to make HST - Half Square Triangles!
The fabric I am using was a gift from a dear friend of mine - Andover Chambray's, aren't they fun?
This was the first time I have used a machine to cut out quilt pieces, I am a die hard ruler and rotary cutter gal so I wasn't really sure that I would use it more than for cutting out papers for my hexagon english paper piecing...I was so wrong. This is fast! I was able to cut out 8 layers of fabric all at once and the machine was fun to use to. You take the two clear plastic cutting pads, your layers of fabric and your die - roll it through the machine and you are ready!
These seem to be easy quilt blocks to make....but are a pain in the you know what to trim up after sewing. Sizzix's die blocks take that extra step away - by adding these great little corner notches.
Once I had my pieces cut out, I set my needle to align perfectly with the notch created (on my Janome that was a 4.6) and started sewing. Once you iron open your seams you have a perfect HST - no trimming needed!
I am excited to finish up this pillow soon, but for now here are some images of the finished pillow front. It was nice to be able to create something quick and accurate. Eliminating the trimming really made me fall in love with HST again.
