Scrappy Heart Block: A Tutorial
Just one month until Valentine’s Day so it is the perfect time to get started on all of those handcrafted gifts! This tutorial on making Scrappy Heart Blocks is so easy and fun, before you know it you will have a stack of them ready to go.
I used scraps and pieces of a charm pack that I have had forever, anything goes as long as it measures at least 2.5” square.
For your supplies you will need:
- 4 - 2.5” squares in a print or solid for the heart, these will be cut diagonally to create 8 triangles
- 4 - 2.5” squares in a solid for the background (white), these will be cut diagonally to create 8 triangles
- 6 - 2” squares in a print or solid for the heart
- 2 - 2” squares in a solid for the background (white
Once you have everything cut, start sewing a background triangle (white) to a solid/print (pink). Iron these once completed
I like to play around with the layout when I have more than one pattern so that they are evenly distributed around the heart.
Next step is to sew your rows together. Press and repeat.
Your finished Scrappy Heart Block will measure: 7” by 7”
If you make some of these I would love to see a picture of the fabrics you used! You can follow me on Instagram and Twitter @modernhandcraft I am tagging these as #scrappyheart
You can also post a photo of your work on here as well, Happy Valentines Day!
